Black and white markers on shipping containers
Nabolagsfabrikken at Skøyen is an organization dedicated to creating activities and meeting places at Skøyen with a focus on a sustainable future. Many of its activities are based on volunteer work, and is led by Kjerstin Bjerka.
In spring 2024, I was contacted because they wanted to develop new activities and highlight Skoletomta as a meeting place for children and young people.
The site contained two storage containers used for activity equipment. The idea was to invite children and young people to draw directly on the container walls and leave their own mark on the place.
We organized Sunday drawing workshops with free drop-in sessions under the theme: Our Shared Future. Vår felles fremtid.
I showed images of my wall drawings and shared experiences from working with markers on walls. The children were asked: What would you like Skøyen to be like in the future? They wrote, sketched, and then drew directly onto the container walls using black and white markers.
People of all ages stopped by, resulting in a rich variety of motifs and drawing styles. Along the way, conversations emerged about how we can work together to create a future.
My artistic contribution in the project:
Communicating art and thematic content. Sharing knowledge about the use of visual elements and techniques in artistic wall work. Inspiring and guiding participants throughout the drawing project.
