Black markers on painted wall
Tegnestafett in collaboration with the organization Kunst I Skolen. Bingsfoss Lower Secondary School was the fifth school to participate in Tegnestafetten during the 2025/26 school year.
The project encourages collaborative drawing and provides a space where young people can express themselves and explore their creativity.
Wall drawing created with students from the Design and Redesign course in the school foyer.
I first created a composition based on a line and drew it up across the wall.
The line related to the spatial elements of the room and functioned as an integrating force, binding the multitude of drawings into a coherent whole.
The pupils were shown artworks by Tom Hatlestad and Ai Weiwei and were asked the question: What does freedom mean to you in your life?
I presented images of my own wall-based works and shared my experiences of drawing directly on walls using black markers.
The pupils were challenged to create drawings around the theme of freedom and produce a collaborative wall artwork. Some developed sketches while others worked intuitively and directly on the wall.
The project offers layered perspectives on freedom in society: One can express oneself through one's own line, words, and thoughts, while simultaneously participating in a community and a collaborative process, becoming part of a larger whole.
My artistic contribution in the project:
Communicating art and thematic content. Sharing knowledge about the use of visual elements and techniques in artistic wall work. Creating a composition in relation to the space and architecture. Inspiring and guiding participants throughout the drawing project.
